The Rise - Men walking with surf boards

The sand and the surf are synonymous with the Central Coast, epitomising Wood Glen’s beautiful natural surroundings.

Two of the world’s most stunning beaches are right on the doorstep and are part of an abundance of opportunities for exploring, swimming, fishing, hiking and boating all along the Coast.

The rolling surf and the idyllic white sands of Terrigal and Avoca beaches, with their towering Norfolk Pines, and neighbouring cafes and eateries, are blessed with all the elements for a perfect day out.

Whether you want to take it on or simply take it easy, the pace is up to you.

Avoca Beach, only minutes from Wood Glen, is situated between two rocky headlands and is popular with surfers and swimmers and day trippers of all ages.

A protected ocean rock pool provides a play area for children, while grassed picnic areas, barbecue shelters and a playground make it easy for families to while away a day.

Go shopping at Avoca Beachside Markets or take in a movie at the historic Avoca Beach Picture Theatre or hike up to Captain Cook Lookout – a popular vantage point for whale watching during winter.  You can even enjoy kayaking and pedal boating on the nearby Avoca Lake.

Terrigal, with its upmarket social scene and beachfront lined with Norfolk Pines, is one of the Central Coast’s best known beaches.

At one end of four kilometres of unbroken coastline extending north to Wamberal Point, Terrigal provides barbecue sites for picnickers as well as spectacular natural elements to explore.

Terrigal Haven, at Terrigal’s southern end, is famous for its landmark Skillion – a cliff facing the ocean with a spectacular lookout which is easily accessed on foot. A path leads up to breathtaking views over the coastline.

At Terrigal, you can also learn about all manner of sea creatures at the Central Coast Marine Discovery Centre, which is always a favourite with the younger set.

The Central Coast is home to lots of beaches. Avoca and Terrigal may be among the most iconic, but part of the fun is exploring all that the region has to offer.

Grab a hat and towel and head outdoors – you won’t be disappointed.
